Environment in everyday life
It’s easy to do business in an environmentally-friendly way: every year 45 trees are saved simply by recycling the paper from our offices!
In the case of paper in particular we take a grass roots approach. When printing and copying, we generally use 100% recycled paper bearing the blue angel environmental label. When it comes to our brochures, we try and use, if possible, paper from sustainable sources.
This is the case, for instance, with our catalogue and 2008 annual report. The cardboard boxes used for distribution are also made of at least 80% waste paper, are recyclable, and certified with the RESY sign awarded by the German organisation for the disposal of recyclable waste (Organisation für Wertstoffentsorgung).
Moreover, the increased use of electronic stationery has allowed us to reduce our paper consumption considerably.
Every sheet of paper saved helps the environment.
The replacement of outmoded individual printers and fax machines with centralised multifunction units has improved not only material and power consumption, but the working environment as well: potential exposure to particulate matter has been reduced dramatically.
No traffic jams, less stress and better efficiency.
A three hour drive for a 30 minute meeting. Sometimes it makes sense – but for the most part, such trips are avoidable.
At edding, a video-conferencing system has been installed, which makes numerous journeys by car and plane unnecessary.
Put simply, that means:
- fuel savings (car, aeroplane)
- reduced CO2 emissions
- reduced employee stress
- time savings
- reduced travel expenses
- a reduced risk of accidents when it comes to car journeys
At the same time, our fleet of company cars is being upgraded with environmentally-friendly models – to date we have been able to reduce CO2 emissions by approximately 14% in comparison with the previous models.
Everyone thinks they are the best driver, and that may well be so. Few people today, however, know how to drive in as energy-saving and eco-friendly way as possible.
From having the correct tyre pressure, to disengaging the clutch at the right time and switching off the engine at traffic lights... there are many helpful hints. Which is why edding is introducing training courses for its staff to teach them how to drive in an eco-friendly manner, offering valuable tips and the necessary know-how. To complement this, edding also supports car-share initiatives.
In parallel, our fleet of company vehicles is being
replaced with greener models; so far, we have managed to reduce our CO2
emissions by approx. 14% compared with previous models.
Environmental protection can be both creative and a lot of fun: a fact demonstrated by our lawnmowers.
At edding AG, we own the most environmentally-friendly lawnmowers in the world: the company herd of sheep ensures that the lawns at our offices in Ahrensburg are always perfectly manicured.
Joking aside, you can never do enough for the environment, and that’s why we will continue to work on realising our concepts, in harmony with the environment. Should you have any suggestions for us, please don’t hesitate to get in touch.
